11:41 am - Praxis I passed my hearing aid dispenser's exam, got the certificate in the mail yesterday, found out today I passed the Praxis, and next month I am headed to NYC/PHL for some graduation action.
I'm almost a full-fledged Doctor of Audiology.
Scary.

05:31 pm - Ostriches! Brent and I headed out to the Ostrich Festival today in Chandler. I played there with my concert band yesterday, so we had free admission. Besides the absurdly priced trinkets for sale, the only thing to do was watch animals race. There were several different varieties being raced, including pigs. (However, the pigs were AWOL when we went by... not sure what that means for the pigs.)
A kid chasing an emu during the emu races.
Chariot racing the ostriches. Love the broom.

 Camels.
 Racing the camels.
Seals. These guys didn't do any racing.
This ostrich almost tried to eat my camera!
There were also some chicken races. I'm not entirely sure how you race chickens. Unfortunately I was unable to see any of the chicken action.
And they had ostrich burgers. I guess that's what happens to the birds that lose.

12:48 am - A box arrives Nicole and I have decided to become artsy bracelet-makers, and so we take trips all over Tempe and Phoenix to find just the right jewels. After a half day of carousing about, we return home to find that a package has arrived for me from my parents. In it they have put such things as my unopened mail, a moo-ing cow from my aunt, and a much-needed silver trumpet rag.
My trumpet was in dire need of the rag:

This is the explosion of goods on our floor. Note the cow, trumpet, and beadmaking supplies:

No meal is complete without nachos and a mimosa:

Nicole's future bracelets:

My future bracelets:

Obviously I'm not so far along. I'm far too entertained by my hobbies to be interested in finishing my, er, hobbies.... ahem.
For these photos I was playing around mainly with aperture (love!) and getting close to the subject. Didn't so much work out. I'd love to shoot macro on pretty much anything.
Next time: pictures of my growing cow collection (and friends!)

12:14 am - Starting over I've decided to start over from scratch. I've had this blog for about four years, and so far nothing spectacular has come of it. Not that "spectacular" was ever my intention, but it could have been better than what it was.
This past weekend I attended "Nikon School," which was actually a tad more interesting than it sounds. I've never had a photography class and no training whatsoever beyond what friends have told me. I'd picked up a Nikon D40, and honestly the only reason I did was because I was getting some compliments on pictures I'd taken with the little Kodak that Nate got me a couple Christmases ago. There were a few shots I'd been frustrated with because the camera was so automatic. In order to give myself more freedom, I bought a camera that I had no clue how to use. It was pretty much the best decision I've ever made.
Nikon School helped cover some of the basics that I'd missed, and then delved deeper into other lesser-known features of Nikon cameras. We gained tips in how to hold the camera and position relative to the subject, as well as information on technical aspects and photo editing on the computer. The best tip, really, after all was said and done, was to just get out there and shoot.
So that's what I'm going to do.
I've been inspired to start documenting the exciting, the mundane, and everything in between. Well, maybe not everything. But when something happens and I find it interesting, then I will do my best to get out there and shoot.
